چکیده

The theory of asymptotic speeds of spread and monotone traveling waves for monotone semiflows is applied to a multi-type SIS epidemic model to obtain the spreading speed c∗, and the nonexistence of traveling waves with wave speed c < c∗. Then the method of upper and lower solutions is used to establish the existence of monotone traveling waves connecting the disease-free and endemic equilibria for c c∗. This shows that the spreading speed coincides with the minimum wave speed for monotone traveling waves. We also give an affirmative answer to an open problem presented by Rass and Radcliffe [L. Rass, J. Radcliffe, Spatial Deterministic Epidemics, Math. Surveys Monogr. 102, Amer. Math. Soc., Providence, RI, 2003]. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. MSC: 37L05; 37C65; 92D30; 92D25

Spreading speed and traveling waves for the diffusive logis- tic equation with a sedentary compartment

By applying the theory of asymptotic speeds of spread and traveling waves to the diffusive logistic equation with a sedentary compartment, we establish the existence of minimal wave speed for monotone traveling waves and show that it coincides with the spreading speed for solutions with initial functions having compact supports.

Spreading speeds and traveling waves for a model of epidermal wound healing

In this paper, we shall establish the spreading speed and existence of traveling waves for a non-cooperative system arising from epidermal wound healing and characterize the spreading speed as the slowest speed of a family of non-constant traveling wave solutions. Our results on the spreading speed and traveling waves can also be applied to a large class of non-cooperative reaction-diffusion sy...

Pandemics and Networks: the Case of the Mexican Flu

The recent widespread of the new Mexican flu and SARS show the high dependency on contemporary traveling patterns. The air transport network is recognized as an important channel of epidemic propagation for different diseases. In order to predict epidemic spreading and the influence of protection measures, a mathematical model of the Susceptible Infected Susceptible (SIS) type is used. We compa...

ENTROPY FOR DTMC SIS EPIDEMIC MODEL

In this paper at rst, a history of mathematical models is given.Next, some basic information about random variables, stochastic processesand Markov chains is introduced. As follows, the entropy for a discrete timeMarkov process is mentioned. After that, the entropy for SIS stochastic modelsis computed, and it is proved that an epidemic will be disappeared after a longtime.

Spreading Speeds and Traveling Waves for Nonmonotone Integrodifference Equations

The spreading speeds and traveling waves are established for a class of non-monotone discrete-time integrodifference equation models. It is shown that the spreading speed is linearly determinate and coincides with the minimal wave speed of traveling waves.
